short description
The Adi are a tribe settled in Arunachal Pradesh, where they are known for their handlooms, a symbol of their identity and upon which their pride rests in weaving. The Galley green wrapping cloth is particularly referred to in the list of other traditional textiles from them. The covering garment has a very typical-different type design: a border, which displays colorfully geometric patterns revealing their closeness with nature in addition to a very rich tradition.
It is traditionally woven by Adi women on backstrap looms. A galley is a functional and ceremonial textile. Green is the color of fertility and prosperity; geometric motifs on the border testify to ancestral art and spirituality. The designs are developed enough to reflect patterns of natural forms, tribal folklore, and cultural symbols.

events. The Adi have remained very close to the traditional art of handloom weaving even into the era of modernization. As part of a modern effort to standardize cultural practices, artisans work hand-in-hand with cultural organizations to create markets for the Galley and proclaim this beautiful Adi tradition to the broader world.
