Fishing, hunting, and gathering are the primary practices of the Great Andamanese, which best applies to the resources and terrains created by the island. Their livelihood includes coastal foraging and harvesting from natural forests, together with fishing for shallow water protein and trade resources. Understanding the environment, the tribe could maximize resources available within the ecosystem, and these factors contribute to the preservation of the natural landscape of Andaman Islands

Great Andamanese Tribe
description
The Great Andamanese are probably the oldest Negrito tribes in the Andaman Islands, with roots tracing back nearly 60,000 years to Central Africa. Their cultural legacy, resilience, and historical influence represent a veritable facet of the islands' history. The Great Andamanese have earned distinctions as warriors who defended their land in the significant “Battle of Aberdeen” waged against British forces-the performance of the Bomu dance, however, shows that this tribe possesses a very rich cultural identity

Cultural Significance
description
Great Andamanese culture is encapsulated in traditional practices, such as the ancient Bomu dance, considered one of the oldest dances in the world. The group takes pride in having their specific customs and continued sharing of traditional songs, arts, and dances over generations. Other cultural expressions of this include shell and clay tattoo ornaments during ceremonies, which depict ties to nature and history. This practice is how they keep their uniqueness as well as feeling of community alive
