This is a long-sleeved, open-front jacket gorgeously finished with yellow ends and has an elaborate weaving design at the back, thus demonstrating the unique textile prowess of the Adi tribe.
The Galuk is handwoven by skilled Adi women weavers on backstrap looms, using cotton or wool, which assures comfort and durability. The black base color denotes strength and resilience while the yellow end of the sleeves provides a striking contrast. The woven design at the back, inspired by tribal motifs, natural surroundings, and folklore, is emblematic of the Adis' cultural roots. Those intricate patterns often possess symbolic meanings, connected with ancestral ties, protection, and prosperity.

description
Traditionally, male and female Adis wear the Galuk only during festivals, ceremonies, and communal functions. It is complementary to Ege (wrap skirt) worn by the women and Gale (loincloth) used by the men. Genuinely, beyond aesthetics, the Galuk also indicates identity and the social heritage that have been passed from their forefathers to present generations.
While modern fashion penetrates the ethos of the Adi tribe, they continue to uphold their traditions of weaving. Several cultural initiatives and schemes for artisans are working towards restoring the craft, making sure the Textile Galuk remains a proud symbol of Adi heritage.
