short description
The spherical metal vessels are indeed manifestations of the indigenous art of Kuki, beyond just being forms of the crafts they used such delicate airy metal skills in their culture. The Kuki population is found scattered over several northeastern states of India, mainly in Manipur, which is said to be very rich in traditions, crafts, and beautiful customs. Spherical vessels tapering to a long neck serve both function and finery. The pedestal has a short circular cross-section that makes the body of the metal vessel rise and seem elevated. Its mouth is small and circular with an open flat rim either for decoration, easy handling, or pouring.

Within the vessel is the rhomboid design etched and embossed on the outer surface, perhaps the most striking feature of the vessel. These geometric designs adorning the vessels might be images encoding many meanings sometimes related to tribal identity, protection, or even fertility.
These vessels generally are used as containers for water or rice beer or as oil containers at festivals, customs, or community gatherings. The metal is so hard that it does not perish over a long generation. Hence it can be passed on as an heirloom carrying with it family heritage and craftsmanship.
Such metallic vessels, therefore, cannot be overlooked in terms of function and art values, which inculcates within them a fully self-sustained life deeply imbibed into culture and tradition.
