short description
It is an absolutely elegant wooden sculpture carved female of the Sutradhar Tribe of Assam in a poise and dignified posture showing the quality of craftsmanship from the tribe and their stylistic tradition of human representation. This sculpture has been completely carved from a single piece of wood and on a triangular pedestal, strength, and groundedness it stands gracefully. The figure presented was an aligned frontal stance; her arms laid straight along the sides of the body bringing serenity and composure in such a way. She was clothed in a red cloth with a green blouse-all beautifully woven through hand painting, revealing the vibrancy infused through nature's pigments so strong that the Sutradhar artisans chose to highlight this cultural costume.

Such minimalist cuts in forms as that image is bears much weight with respect to the identity and heritage. It gives its scattered-painted decorations to portray attire and, most probably, jewelry or facial features. To this folk aesthetic, valuable for symbolism rather than anatomical realism, are the colors: red, having the meaning of auspiciousness and femininity; green-a representation of fertility, harmony, and life. These figures are those of village women, deities, or ancestral spirits. They may take part in rituals, storytelling performances, or adornment as household icons. Simple and yet powerful in symbolism: this speaks really of the Sutradhar community as storytellers and woodcarver artisans who preserve cultural memory. This is the monument of the tribal idiom of womanhood-an equilibrium of modesty and grace along with a spiritual resonance.
